Having Talent in Your Trade Show Booth

Having Talent in Your Trade Show Booth

At first glance, one might think this post is about making sure your staff is up to the task of making the very most of your trade show opportunity. That is a very worthwhile subject to tackle, but is not what this post is about. This post is about hiring outside talent for your booth in the form of booth models, actors, and performers. Is it worth it, and will your potential clients take you seriously if you do it?

We’ll start with the obvious – booth models, also known as “booth babes” and “booth bunnies.” Are they pretty? Sure. Do they dress provocatively? You bet. Will they bring in traffic? Maybe. Your booth is sure to get a lot of looks, but some people might be shy or even opposed to approaching your booth if you have scantily clad models donning miniature versions of your trade show logoed shirts. It all depends on the trade show audience. Cars? Go for it. Insurance? Not so much. Though, those insurance people can get car-azy sometimes.

How about a hired actor or presenter? Well, if nobody on your staff is able to present your company the way you want it presented, hiring an actor or spokesperson is a good option. You can tell them exactly what to say, they are comfortable around large groups of people, and they look great. But are they invested in your company emotionally? No. Can they answer complicated questions about your product or service? Probably not.

You can also hire tattoo artists, airbrush tattoo artists, caricature artists, comedians, magicians, jugglers, clowns, celebrity impersonators, and mimes to make your both stand out from the crowd, but what will that do for your business? Truly that depends on your audience, the type of trade show it is, and what the other exhibitors are doing. You don’t want to bring in the Elvis impersonator at a church trade show – unless he’s singing the gospel songs.
